History of THAC
/SUMMARY/

The Club of Craftsmen and Young Craftsmen of Tata and Tóváros was founded in 1907. From that time on the town's sport life became more lively. They organized football matches, athletic meetings and swimming competitions yearly. In autumn 1910 István Skrabák founded the Athletic Club of Tata and Tóváros with the young people (Hütter, Gerstenkorn, Pluhár, Szilágyi, etc.) playing football in the Club of Young Craftsmen and the grounds of Tóváros. They had little to do with athletics they were football fans. In a short time they had a match with their eternal rival. The Club of Tata and Tóváros Physical Trainers (TTK). Their football field was the place in front of the so called  Katona field and Hutschenreiter. Until the first world war Tata and Tóváros Athletic Club had athletic and football sections. Between 1914 and 1918 people did not hear much about the club. The sportsmen were called up to military service and the circumstances were unfavourable for sports. After the end of the war a meeting was held where the Athletic Club was reorganized in December, 1918. The new management was elected on 16 February, 1919. Athletic, football, swimming, chess, tennis, gymnastics and tourism section were started, the wrestling section was organized in 1927.
In the mamagement Dr. Géza Mihály was not only a sportsman but he was the industrious and highly esteemed secretary of the club for more than 25 years.
Not having a club-house the meetings and other organizations were held in Hotel Esterházy (today Hotel Kristály). The club had 300 members - among them 80 sportsmen - in 1921.
Besides wrestling and weightlifting - Károly Wolf and Lajos Wéber were the champions of Hungary in lightweight in 1927 - two more sections had outstandig results until 1938. After an enormous struggle the football team (Johannesz - Hemerlein, Simon - Ruska, Risoczky, Breuer - Gregor I., Hegedûs, Hütter, Gregor II., Nagy) got into the first league of Dunántul district. From 1927 to 1935 the club played there with a short pause of two years. In 1927 the new football field was built in Agostyáni street.
After a reorganization in the second league the football team of the club played in Dunaszakasz league.
The other succesful section was that of swimming and waterpolo. In 1920 a 100 meter pool was built in Nagytó (Old Lake). Already in 1921 in the swimming competition of Rába-district five among the published 6 events were won by the swimmer of TAC. The best results were achieved between 1927 and 1934 in the new swimming pool inaugurated in 1926. the club had such swimmers as László Dukász, Sándor Krausz, Sári Oliva, András Pyber, Iza Zottl and Gyöegy Zottl.
When the two villages joined TAC and TTK were united and the new name was Tatatóváros Sport Club. The new club had difficult conditions from 1939 because of the events of the war. At the beginning of the 1940s some of the young people competed in Levente Club and Révai Sport Club of the Secondary Grammar School. This club was founded in 1924.
After the second worls war TAC was reorganized with athletic, football, swimming, and tennis section at the meeting of 28 July, 1945.
